Font Process

Designing a successful logo for a veterinary hospital requires a deep understanding of the brand’s mission and its audience. A logo should encapsulate the values of care, compassion, and professionalism that clients seek when entrusting their pets to a veterinary service.

Necessary considerations for my design process include:

  1. Platt Park Veterinary’s Mission: My first request from a client is to read their mission statement. A clear mission statement form the company informs the design elements, ensuring they resonate with the business owner’s vision, with their customers-in this case pet owners- and with the community in which the business operates.

  2. Color Psychology: Suggesting color palettes that evoke feelings of trust and warmth. Greens and blues can suggest health and tranquility, while earth tones can communicate stability and care.

  3. Imagery: The owner of Platt Park Veterinary hospital was adamant that the logo and brand was neither cute or kitch: no dog’s backend, no paws, no medical crosses. She was inspired by the historic building itself and by the quaint neighborhood of the community. Meeting with my clients in-person and in their business’ space ensures that the imagery aligns with the desire of the overall brand-personality.

  4. Typography: Combining a strong serif typeface with a softer sans-serif can strike a balance between trust and approachability while naturally feeling harmonious. Everyday viewers of these font pairings should not notice the font-it should not stick out to them. When executed successfully, font(s) should subconsciously convey a business’ personality. A customer will know what to expect from mere font(s) alone-and they will not even know it.

  5. Scalability: The vet hospital approached me with very elaborate illustrations and the desire to incorporate all of Colorado’s symbolism within their logo: the Denver skyline, the Rocky Mountains, the Aspen trees atop the mountains etc. My job is to tame a lot of creative energy and harness it to reflect what is actually going to be successful: a logo that is scalable across various platforms, from business cards to large signage, while maintaining clarity and impact at any size.

  6. Timelessness: Additionally in line with taming a lot of ideas into a singular, intentional and unique design, is striving for a design that will remain relevant for years. It is important for the brand’s longevity to avoid overly trendy elements that may quickly become outdated, keeping the overall aesthetic classic yet modern for years to come.

By focusing on these elements, the logo can serve as a strong visual representation of the veterinary hospital, fostering trust and inspiring confidence in its services.
